“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)
Someone said, “If you do not hunger and thirst after God, maybe it’s because you are already full of yourself.”
Food and water keep us alive. A human can live for about 3 weeks without food. Water is a different story. Our body mass is nearly 60% water; it lubricates our joints, flushes waste, and regulates our core temperature and blood pressure. After only 4 days without water, some organs begin to shut down. Most people could survive a week, far less with high heat or extreme exertion. Food and water sustain physical life. What keeps us spiritually alive?
How do you keep you spiritual ‘heart’ healthy? Watchmen need spiritual food and water. Our food is God’s Word (Job 23:12; Psa. 119:103) “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight.” (Jer. 15:16) There is life in God’s Word (Acts 7:38). Jesus is the “Bread of life” (John 6:33,35) because He IS the Word (John 1:1).
Our nourishing food is the Word. Our refreshing water is the Holy Spirit. Do you need to change your spiritual diet?
God, You are my life. Feed me more of You so I can offer eternal life and spiritual health to those around me today.
