“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11-12)

You owe a lot to your pastor. He has watched over some of you all your life. From the first time your parents placed you in the nursery, he has been standing behind the pulpit each Sunday. He has prayed for you, over you and with you. He taught you God’s Word and provided a godly example to follow. He’s a large part of the reason you became a Watchman.

Who watches him? No one is under as much attack on a regular basis as your pastor. He has his weaknesses, dark days, and times when he feels all he’s done is in vain. If you’ve grown up with one pastor, you may think he is impervious to attack. But your pastor is human. He needs someone to watch his back.

He benefits from appreciation—a word, a card, or a text. He’s not looking for words of thanks. Tell him the impact he’s had on your life. He’s searching for evidence He has not failed.

He’s gone to God on your behalf multiple times. Now it’s time to get on your knees for him. Pray God grants him wisdom, courage, holiness and rest. The more fervent your efforts to watch over him, the more effectively he can watch over you.

Father, thank you for my pastor. You put him in my life to show me the way. Protect him and his family from any who would inflict him with harm whether physical or spiritual.
