Often, we suffer from a distorted thinking pattern that things will continue as they are. We see this pattern in Genesis as the events leading up to the flood unfold. First, let’s establish that in Genesis 6:5, it says (ESV) “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”  In v11-12, it continues, “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” 

Matthew 24:37-39 records the attitude of those living at that time. "For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” 

Note it says they were unaware of what was coming during the 75 or so years it took for Noah to construct the Ark. This is what we, as Watchmen, co-labor and fight against. This sums up the point well: 

“…mankind had come to a point of comfort in their sinful living, calculating that since things remained the same for so long that they would continue to do so indefinitely.”^[1]

Let’s pivot our discussion for a moment. Today, perhaps more than ever, the Watchmen Community sees a steady stream of increasing events of increasing severity (birth pangs) that point to the season of the Lord’s return. We do not know the day or hour, but we do know how to interpret the precursors, or as our friend Jan Markell says: these events are a “huge foreshadowing” of what is to come.

Let’s enumerate just a few recent indications of these events. 

Matthew 24:7 says: “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.”

Over the past year, our team at I Am A Watchman has interviewed dozens of Bible Prophecy experts on our radio show, A View from the Wall. All agree that we are approaching the End Times. They agree that we are living in the season of the Lord’s return – the soon Rapture of the Church. We see Watchmen and Watchwomen from all over the world warning that the Age of Grace is nearing completion; that the fullness of the Gentiles is nearly here (Romans 11:25).

So, here is the gut check: are you sprinting towards your finish line?

If you are, then you join a unique and very small minority, even among the remnant Church and fully awakened Christ-followers.

Your life is extremely focused on the lost. You expend enormous energy staying informed, honing your awareness of Bible Prophecy -> Current Events -> Warnings -> Gospel.

You flirt with exhaustion and believe it’s critical to push hard, to strain to finish well, leaving nothing in reserve. You understand that our rest is coming and it’s okay to defer many distractions and pleasures of this world because the appeal of these very things is fading by the day. We long to be rescued and we cling to Jesus: our Blessed Hope! We want to be counted among the wise virgins, with wicks trimmed and having oil in our lamps; we are waiting for the Groom and we are looking up! 

If you are not sprinting to the finish line, is it because you, too, are thinking that things will continue just as they are? That there is still time? Are you walking along at a comfortable pace? If so, there’s just no way to sugar coat it: this is an error in judgment!

If you are called as a Watchman, there is a special Ezekiel 33 level of accountability that you cannot shake. It is sobering, motivating, and clarifying. We must take our calling seriously.

We must wake up that things are happening NOW, that time is short and our window of opportunity to influence our friends and loved ones is about to close. THIS IS HAPPENING; WE MUST DEAL WITH IT. You were CALLED for such a time as this! YOU CAN DO IT! 

I consume massive amounts of information as a Watchman. I see a gargantuan amount of evidence that mature, awakened, remnant believers are getting tired, discouraged, threadbare, depressed, persecuted, and worse in some cases. It is lonely being a Watchman and as we’ve often said in our ministry: it is a very difficult calling. …BUT GOD.

The Lord called and confirmed YOU for such a time as this. He knows your heart; He is rooting for you, He knows we are vessels of clay and that our sin nature is ever before us. May this encourage you; may it be an anchor in your personal struggles: 

Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV) “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
