“A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.” (Proverbs 14:30)
With social media at our fingertips, it’s hard to miss the highlight reel of your friends’ lives as you check in at the end of the day. Sometimes it feels like everyone is getting married. Having a baby. Securing new homes and promotions. Vacationing in Aspen again. Comparison begins to steal our joy. Why does their apparent happiness have the power to diminish ours?
Maybe we’re the ones posting good news, knowing that our highlight doesn’t show the messy house, the job we just lost or the way we were fighting with our spouse an hour before. Is the underlying goal to make others feel envious of our lives?
We must examine our hearts as we choose what to dwell on and what to share. Proverbs tells us that envy rots our bones. It corrupts us from the inside out. Let us remember that we never see or share the whole picture. So motivate yourself to motivate others! We have an unprecedented opportunity for our thoughts to be broadcast to a group with just a few clicks. What a gift! Try using social media as a platform to encourage; to share your faith, hope and joy as you go through life.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the opportunities of today. Guard my heart and help me glorify You with every tap of the keyboard!
