Lose Sight of Yourself
By Guest Watchman Doug
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-25)
Watchmen are seekers. God is the first thing on watchmen’s mind upon awakening, and the last thing on their mind before going to sleep. Watchmen are continually on guard and stay vigilant knowing the enemy is trying to find someone to attack. We lift our shield high in front of us for defense!
Watchmen refuse to be distracted and help others remain focused. Matthew 10:39 compels them.“He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
When you stop trying to make yourself happy every day, you are free to focus on the King and the King’s business. Don’t just live for yourself. Give up the low-life, be content. Take the high life, be happy.
Go to the school of the Holy Ghost and get practical daily application in your life. Say, “I refuse to live for myself.” Take care of God’s business, and He will take care of your business.
Is there something you’re pursuing that is holding you back from fully taking up your cross daily? Are you frequently distracted by things that only offer you reward in this life to find that it did not truly satisfy you or last… and you find yourself off the narrow path again and again? Stop and be still. We were not redeemed by corruptible things. Engage the Holy Spirit for comfort and direction.
Lord God, give us the strength to seek You first. Holy Spirit, fill us with Your presence and provide us with Your continual guidance – to remain focused on what is our eternal reward and Father’s business.
